Queens Of The Stone Age formed from the ashes of Kyuss, when that band broke up in 1995. Lead singer/guitarist Josh Homme rechristened the band, which has featured a revolving door of musicians, Queens Of The Stone Age. The group released their self-titled debut LP in late 1998.

In 2000, Queens Of The Stone Age issued their sophomore album, Rated R. The group built a great buzz due in part to accolades from publications including Rolling Stone as well as good old-fashioned touring.

The following year, Queens Of The Stone Age put together their third studio album, Songs for the Deaf, which was one of the year's most anticipated and best received hard rock albums. Ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was very vocal in the press about his respect for the band, which led to an invitation for him to join the group to record and tour.

This year, Queens Of The Stone Age released the album Era Vulgaris, featuring contributions from former Queens Of The Stone Age member Mark Lanegan and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas.
